travel bug… Versailles

If you are ever in Paris, one thing you must not miss is a day trip to the Palace of Versailles! My husband and I decided to be adventurous and take a bicycle tour of Versailles – it was absolutely amazing… not counting the 3 minor crashes I had. Getting on a bike for the fist time in 8 years in the middle of Paris might not have been the best idea. But I am so extremely glad we stuck with it. Once we arrived in Versailles (by train with bikes in tow) we rode through the gardens surrounding the palace, which covers 80,000 acres!! Since we were on bikes we were able to see parts of the garden that would have taken forever to get to on foot! They even had sheep roaming the fields. It was a little overcast but it made for some dramatic photos. Once we finished our tour of the gardens we went into the palace itself. The interior is covered with gold leaf and ornate decorations fit for a king… or a queen!

Engagement Session

Meet the cutest, most adorable, truly in love couple in Dallas! Kallie and Ryan were a joy to work with and it certainly helps that they are two beautiful people. We chose to do their engagement session in the Deep Ellum area of Dallas. They are getting married at a venue in that area this November… my birthday to be exact (which, on a side note -I was super excited to find out that my b-day falls on a Saturday this year). This was my first ever engagement session and I am so excited with the results, it involved many scouting trips and one very early morning (trying to beat the heat!). Thank you to Kallie and Ryan for being so totally awesome! And most importantly Congratulations!!

Harry, Coco, & Gigi

I don’t know if I’ve ever met a more caring family than the one that these three little ones belong to. Harry, Coco, and Gigi are all adopted shelter dogs – but they were also all special needs in their own ways. This loving family has taken all three into their home and given them the most incredible lives. These three pups might come in the form of a itty-bitty package but they each have their very own bright personalities. I first met Harry and Coco a year ago for their first photo session: harry & coco. I was so excited to hear that the family had added another adopted pup named Gigi to their family and I couldn’t wait to meet her.

I had such a great time playing with and photographing these three little stars!

First I’ll introduce you to Harry. His name is a little ironic, because the day he was adopted he didn’t have any hair at all… But now he is oh so handsome. Harry is very laid back and a little stand offish, but once he gets to know you he quickly warms up and turns into a little love bug. He spent most of the afternoon in the hammock enjoying a breeze under a huge tree.

Coco is the silly one of the group. A complete ball of energy ready to greet you with a jump and a kiss! She is a little superstar and looooovvvvves her treats!

And the newest member of the family is little miss Gigi. Gigi is such a little princess with a bit a shyness. She is still getting used to her new home and receiving love from humans. She was actually very scared of my camera but who can blame her – the camera is bigger than she is However, once she saw Coco preforming for the camera she decided to trust me as well.

I hope you can see how happy these pups are in these photos. I am so happy to have captured each ones personality!

I couldn’t be more in love with my career as a pet photographer, and it’s families with pups like these that make all the difference. I am truly living a dream

SPCA of texas: Wagging my own tail

I must take this opportunity to wag my own tail and toot my own horn …just a little bit! I was super excited to find out that I have been chosen as the SPCA of Texas Volunteer of the Month. I was asked to write a short paragraph as to why I choose to volunteer at the SPCA and that really got me thinking about my time spent at the shelter. I started looking back through all of the photos of shelter animals that I’ve taken, and began remembering each animal. I couldn’t believe how many cats, dogs, and rabbits I had met while volunteering – I was surprised to find out that I have photographed over 850 shelter animals to date here in Dallas. As I went through the old photos I started picking out a couple of my favorites and decided to put together a little tribute to all the shelter animals. It brings me such happiness to know that each of these critters has found their forever, loving home.

I want to share with you the paragraph that was sent out in the SPCA newsletter that I feel really sums up my response to the question: Why do you choose to volunteer at animal shelters?

Hello, I’m Allison – a Dallas based pet photographer. I absolutely love what I do for a living and am so lucky to be given the opportunity to capture the spirit and personality of so many different animals. I volunteer at the SPCA because it brings such joy to me knowing that I might have had a hand in finding an animal their forever home. Pets, no matter how big or small, are always ready to give you their unconditional love, loyalty, and trust. It is only fair that we give them our unconditional love in return. I am committed to helping shelter animals in any way possible – after all they are the best of the best, and most of the time love you even more because they know they have been given a second chance at life. I adore my rescue dog – a one eyed blue heeler mutt, who is the most handsome dog in Texas… it’s true! I even named my business after him: Blue Mutt Photography – he is definitely living the life he deserved to have. Since starting at the SPCA of Texas I have photographed over 850 animals is hopes of helping them along their journey. Believe me it has been hard to not take them all home with me, but I have loved every minute of it!

On a side note: this article went out just a few days before we adopted Layla, so that is why she is not mentioned in my bio. However, I have big plans for Layla’s involvement in my business – don’t you worry. Willie isn’t the only one who will hold sole naming rights to my business. I’ll keep you posted and an update on Layla is coming soon!

Macy & Mallory

Meet Macy and Mallory – two beautiful sisters. I am so lucky because I get to live right next door to them. They are huge fans of Willie and love to play soccer with him. A few weeks ago we loaded up and headed to the Dallas Arboretum for a morning of play and photos. I am super happy with the way their photo session turned out because I really do feel like it captures their loving, silly, and happy personalities.

That’s Mallory in the blue and Macy in the purple. So beautiful!

baby judah

Meet beautiful baby Judah, only 2 weeks old and ready for his first photo shoot. He is such a sweet baby and his parents couldn’t be better people if they tried. I just love this family so much. I was lucky enough to meet Judah’s mom, Amy, at my first architecture job here in Dallas. We became fast friends and now I am honored to photograph her new baby. I am excited to see Judah grow and Amy become an amazing mom. Congratulations!

Ever had one of these weeks? Don’t worry Mr. Squirrel Man, I am right there with you! Holding on for dear life… Editing, designing photobooks, ordering gallery wrapped canvases… and getting ready to head out of town tomorrow. Okay – well that’s a good thing! Hello fireworks and lake – I’ve missed you. So how is your week going? Ready for the 3 day weekend?

I giggled for a good 15 minutes when I met this squirrel in the arboretum last week. Hope no one choked on their coffee

First Day of Summer… Technically

Today is the first day of summer – well technically that is. It has been summer for quite some time here in Dallas – multiple days with the temperature reaching 100! Maybe someone should tell the calendar makers to move it up a week or two

Harry and Coco sure know how to enjoy summer time. You might remember Harry and Coco from a year ago – they recently got a new little sister named Gigi. Her debut on Blue Mutt will be coming soon – and you won’t want to miss this adorable little girl. For their second photoshoot Harry and Coco were pros. Harry enjoyed the breeze – cooling off in his hammock under a huge tree, while Coco jumped for joy in the green grass – showing off her moves for everyone. I think I might join Harry in the hammock – seems like he’s go the right idea for the summer time heat! Hope everyone is enjoying their summer and keeping cool!

Little Will

Little Will has got to be one of the sweetest babies in Dallas. It was such a delight to photograph him and his new parents. I was lucky enough to meet Will’s parents shortly after moving to Dallas 5 years ago, which made this newborn session that much more special. I am so excited to see this little one grow and change, and I hope to keep on photographing him Of course there are a million photos that I love and want to share so I had to split them into two posts. Commence Cooing… … now!
