I know, I know, where are my SPCA Thursday’s?? Well they are back, back with this awesome weather we’ve been having that is. It’s not that we haven’t been up at the shelter working with these adorable guys, it’s that the weather just never seems to want to work with me to capture their photos. Until now that is!! Have you looked out your window? It is gorgeous outside and these furry friends are ready to be in your back yard

First up is the handsome Kaiser, who really reminds me a my little Layla (who is also from the SPCA). He’s a tad larger than Layla but just as silly! Love the markings

And this sweet girl is Rio, who is full of personality and knows “sit.”

Check out all of Rio’s awesome expressions…

Piper is all Beagle – that nose, that grin, and those soft – floppy ears!

I don’t think I’ve ever met a dog with two different shades of brown eyes! Too cool. Petey has one chocolate eye and one golden eye. Plus he is just down right sweet!

If you’ve spent any time around kids you know who Tow-Mater is… well this puppies name is Tow-Mater which to me is hysterical. This little guy is going to be a BIG one once he’s all grown up, but he is also going to be a show stopper because he is so soft and gorgeous!

Now while both of these gals names are Missy – they’ve got personalities all their own. Missy on the left is a little corgi mix who was shy at first but ready to cuddle. Missy on the right is a cattle dog who is ready to run and play!

All of these adorable dogs are available for adoption at the SPCA of Texas. If you are curious to know more about their personalities just let me know

Today was a great day to spend with all my little love bugs at the SPCA here in Dallas. The weather was great and so were the ears…

First up is Brody, who has some awesome ears and is just as sweet as can be. He is a VIP (very important pet) which means he’s been at the shelter for a while now and really needs to find his forever home.

Bailey has also got some interesting ears but she also wins the award for longest legs, those things go on forever! And look at that eye-liner

And then there is Max, who is a hoot and can jump as high as my shoulders but is tiny! And lastly is Thunder, he is just a big goofball and has a happy heart!

I can only hope that my work as a pet photographer helps to spread the word to adopt a shelter dog today!!

I must take this opportunity to wag my own tail and toot my own horn …just a little bit! I was super excited to find out that I have been chosen as the SPCA of Texas Volunteer of the Month. I was asked to write a short paragraph as to why I choose to volunteer at the SPCA and that really got me thinking about my time spent at the shelter. I started looking back through all of the photos of shelter animals that I’ve taken, and began remembering each animal. I couldn’t believe how many cats, dogs, and rabbits I had met while volunteering – I was surprised to find out that I have photographed over 850 shelter animals to date here in Dallas. As I went through the old photos I started picking out a couple of my favorites and decided to put together a little tribute to all the shelter animals. It brings me such happiness to know that each of these critters has found their forever, loving home.

I want to share with you the paragraph that was sent out in the SPCA newsletter that I feel really sums up my response to the question: Why do you choose to volunteer at animal shelters?

Hello, I’m Allison – a Dallas based pet photographer. I absolutely love what I do for a living and am so lucky to be given the opportunity to capture the spirit and personality of so many different animals. I volunteer at the SPCA because it brings such joy to me knowing that I might have had a hand in finding an animal their forever home. Pets, no matter how big or small, are always ready to give you their unconditional love, loyalty, and trust. It is only fair that we give them our unconditional love in return. I am committed to helping shelter animals in any way possible – after all they are the best of the best, and most of the time love you even more because they know they have been given a second chance at life. I adore my rescue dog – a one eyed blue heeler mutt, who is the most handsome dog in Texas… it’s true! I even named my business after him: Blue Mutt Photography – he is definitely living the life he deserved to have. Since starting at the SPCA of Texas I have photographed over 850 animals is hopes of helping them along their journey. Believe me it has been hard to not take them all home with me, but I have loved every minute of it!

On a side note: this article went out just a few days before we adopted Layla, so that is why she is not mentioned in my bio. However, I have big plans for Layla’s involvement in my business – don’t you worry. Willie isn’t the only one who will hold sole naming rights to my business. I’ll keep you posted and an update on Layla is coming soon!

The Cameron family grew by one this past weekend. Meet our new pup Layla! I first met Layla at the SPCA of Texas and instantly fell in love with her. She was petrified – extremely scared of people and suffering in the shelter environment. We are guessing that she was running with a pack of strays because she is perfectly comfortable around other dogs, it’s just people that make her nervous – very nervous. I spent a couple of hours with her at the SPCA trying to get her to warm up to me, and hopefully others. But I ended up falling in love with her and just two days later she was here in our home. Layla is such a sweet girl but still painfully shy – we are working on it and she is getting more comfortable with us every minute. She is already best friends with her big brother Willie!

We have no idea what type of breeds are in Layla, but we plan on asking our vet. Any guesses?

Now here is where I need your help. We kept Layla’s name from the SPCA, we felt like it really did fit her shy demeanor. But we are stuck on her middle name. Yes, all dogs need a middle name. Willie’s full name is Wilson Lincoln Kolle Cameron (seriously). We just can’t seem to find the right fit for Layla. So I am asking you guys… What should Layla Cameron’s middle name be??

I think this last photo might be my favorite, as far as Layla’s first day at our home, this pretty much says it all. Such a sweet girl! By the way – I realize that all of these photos are in the same spot, that’s because for some reason she decided the back door floor matt was her safe spot for the day… Many many more photos to come, that is once she’s ready

These little love bugs at the SPCA of Texas need a home. The kitty above is Miranda, she’s a little shy – but very sweet. I actually had my camera on the wrong setting when I snapped this photo, but I love how it turned out. Below is Boomer and he has the best ears I’ve ever seen on a dog! The first photo is “normal” boomer, ready for his glamour shot. In the second photo I made a noise and his ears went wild – straight out into the air. I about lost it which made Boomer very excited. He is only two years old and needs a loving home that will take care of him and get him a little exercise (but don’t tell him that)

There are tons of lovable animals at the SPCA of Texas who are in need of a home – Adopt a Shelter Dog or Cat and be loved for life!

It never ceases to amaze me how any dog in any situation still greets you with a smile and a wag. I really do think that everyone should have a pet of their own. It is a proven fact that owning any kind of pet can reduce stress: check out this article on About.com. I love my Thursday mornings spent at the SPCA of Texas as their “unofficial” pet photographer

Meet Marly and Pogo

Cleo – just couldn’t resist this photo of the way she was sitting! And Lancelot (who has the softest ears ever!)

Cleo & Pogo – or should I say super dog!
